A Personal Journey Toward a Healthier Web

Every meaningful journey begins with a question. For me, that question became clearer during WordCamp Asia 2026 in Mumbai. As a volunteer, community member, professional, and mother of two daughters, I had the opportunity to experience something that makes the WordPress ecosystem special: People. Not software. Not plugins. Not websites. People.
Over the years, WordPress has given me opportunities to learn, grow, connect, build a career, and become part of a global community that believes in making the web more open and accessible.
WordCamp Asia 2026 reminded me of something important: Behind every website, contribution, meetup, plugin, support forum, and community initiative is a human being. And human beings need care too.
Throughout my journey in the digital world, I have met contributors, freelancers, agency owners, developers, designers, marketers, organizers, and community leaders. Many are incredibly talented, deeply committed, and helping others every day. Yet I also noticed a common pattern. People were:
Often, they were doing all of this while putting their own wellbeing last. The more conversations I had, the more I realized that wellbeing was a topic many people cared about but few openly discussed.
This idea was not born from theory—it came from personal experience. Over time, I began introducing simple practices into my own life:
These small changes created meaningful improvements in my life, bringing greater peace, better focus, healthier habits, and a more balanced relationship with work and responsibilities. It made me wonder: What if more people in our communities had access to conversations and resources that supported their wellbeing?
As WordPress approached another birthday celebration, I found myself thinking about contribution. Millions of people have benefited from WordPress—businesses have been built, careers have been created, communities have formed, and knowledge has been shared.
I asked myself what contribution I could make in return. The answer was not another plugin, service, or marketing campaign. The answer was creating space for a conversation that felt increasingly important: a conversation about the wellbeing of the people behind the web.
WPWellbeing was created with a simple mission: Helping contributors care for themselves while caring for the web. It is not a business campaign, not a replacement for professional health support, and not about having all the answers. Instead, it is a community initiative focused on several core areas:
The goal is simple: to listen, to learn, to share stories, and to support healthier and more sustainable participation in our communities.
WPWellbeing is still in its early days, and there is much to learn. There are many conversations yet to have, stories to hear, and opportunities to better understand what contributors, organizers, freelancers, agency owners, creators, and digital professionals need.
My hope is that this initiative becomes a place where people feel comfortable sharing experiences, learning from one another, and exploring what sustainable success looks like.
If you are a contributor, organizer, freelancer, agency owner, creator, community leader, or digital professional, I invite you to join the conversation. Share your experiences, your lessons, and your story. Together we can help create healthier communities and a healthier web.
“Because a healthier web starts with healthier people.”
WPWellbeing is an independent community initiative focused on contributor wellbeing, healthy digital habits, sustainable contribution, and supporting the people behind the web.
WPWellbeing was inspired by conversations within the WordPress community and a desire to create more awareness around wellbeing, balance, and sustainable contribution.
WPWellbeing starts with the WordPress ecosystem but welcomes creators, freelancers, agency owners, community leaders, and digital professionals interested in wellbeing.
You can participate by reading articles, sharing your story, joining conversations, subscribing to updates, and contributing ideas that support healthier communities.
Community leaders help create healthy participation by encouraging realistic expectations, recognizing contributions, preventing over-reliance on volunteers, and fostering supportive community cultures.
